Dhootpapeshwar Vidangarishta is a widely prescribed Ayurvedic formulation produced by fermentation of decoction of its principal integrant Vidanga (Embelia Ribes) and other ingredients listed below. It contains 5 to 10% self-generated alcohol which acts as the medium of dissolution of active constituents of the herbs.
Properties and Uses:
It is Vata-Kapha Shamak, Ushna, Ruksha, Teekshna and Krimighna in nature.
It is given in conditions like Krimi (Intestinal worm infestation), Gandamala, Ashmari, Prameha, Bhagandara, Urustambha, Vidradhi etc.
Dosage:
2 to 4 tablespoons full (15-30 ml) twice daily after meals, with an equal quantity of lukewarm water.
Side Effects:
Although side effects are not common but should be taken under a doctor’s prescription.
Shelf Life:
10 years. Bottle once opened is better advised to be emptied within 2 months.
